Campfire camping in the New Forest
At Teddy’s Farm you can gather round a real campfire at the end of the day. Fire pits are available to hire, logs are sold on site, and campfires are welcome, which is a rarity for camping in the New Forest. Sitting round a fire pit listening to the sheep is one of the things our campers remember about staying here.
Can you have a campfire at Teddy’s Farm?
Yes. Fires are allowed in a fire pit or a raised barbecue, never directly on the ground. You can hire one of our fire pits for £5 a night, and we sell logs on site for £10 a net (card only).
Fire pits are popular in the summer, so add one to your booking to make sure one is kept for you. If you’re staying in one of our pre-pitched bell tents, you can add a fire pit and logs to your booking in the same way.
Why are campfires rare in the New Forest?
The New Forest Code asks visitors not to light fires or barbecues anywhere on the open forest, because heathland fires spread quickly and do lasting damage to wildlife and the landscape. It’s one reason many campsites in the area don’t allow them. On our farm, fires stay in raised fire pits on the campsite, well away from the forest itself.
What happens in dry weather?
In a long dry spell the risk of wildfire in the New Forest can become very high, and we may have to stop all fires on the campsite until it rains, as we did in August 2026. If that happens we’ll put up a notice, and as our booking terms explain, we can’t give refunds because of a fire ban.
What else is there to do on summer evenings?
Evenings on the farm are quiet and relaxed. Watch the sheep settle in the fields, spot the stars and listen to the owls chatting after dark. In August we also have a few extras for campers: in 2026 the Merry Mule bar visited on Friday and Saturday evenings, and Austyn Brown led a two-hour singalong around the campfire with his acoustic guitar.
We’re a family-friendly site, so please keep the noise down after 10:30pm, with no music after 10pm.
